Paris, France
Abstract
The Risālat al-ʾIfṣāḥ by the Andalusian grammarian Ibn al-Ṭarāwa (d. 526/1132 or 528/1134) is a criticism of a grammatical compendium much widespread in the Near East, al-Fārisī’s (d. 377/987) Kitāb al-ʾĪḍāḥ. Together with a harshly polemical tone, it is characterized by a strongly claimed faithfulness to the letter of Sībawayhi’s (d. 180/796?) Kitāb, the founding text of the discipline, but also by a number of original opinions, at odds with the canonical doctrine of his times.
